To: Chancellor Michael V. Drake, Dean of Students at UCI, President Mark Yudof at University of California
We, the undersigned, call on the UCI administration to take meaningful and proactive steps in response to recent attempts by radical students to suppress free speech rights on our campus.
The disruptions that occurred on February 8, 2010 were a clear violation of the First Amendment. The UCI Administration must respond promptly and appropriately to this censorship. Otherwise, such disruptive behavior will set a dangerous precedent for University campuses nationwide. We must not allow a small group of extremist students to control what the entire campus can and cannot hear. We demand that our most fundamental American rights be protected on this campus and that our free speech as individuals on this campus will no longer be suppressed by select individuals. Furthermore, this is a time for justice, and we must make sure that we, as leaders, take action now.
Sincerely,
